FEATURES
The Curtis 1203A model includes cutting-edge characteristics making it an efficient controller for a variety of PMDC motors, including brushless DC electric motors.
Feature
Purpose
Regenerative Brake Control
Allows recovery of energy used for braking. This energy is then stored and used to improve the range of an electric vehicle.
Variable Drive Speed
Allows accurate vehicle control for an improved driving experience
Power MOSFET
Highly efficient, smooth, and noiseless operation
Throttle: Single-ended
Allows full off and full on controls at opposite ends of throttle and a separate component for switch intended for direction control.
Mounting Option: Front or Back
Mountable in either front or back
Dual Ramp Reversing (Automatic)
Allows swift transition in terms of acceleration or deceleration when switching from forward to reverse or vice versa.
Trimpots (On Board)
Allows acceleration and brake adjustment
Allows reduction of speed for reverse function
Switch or Potentiometer (External Component)
Allowing adjustment of top speed by programming it externally
Neutral Throttle
When the vehicle is off and unmanned, it brakes motor
Electromagnetic Brake
Slows down the vehicle by creating resistance once the throttle is on neutral.
Easy Installation
No further alterations are necessary and utilize a two-wire potentiometer

Features for Safety and Protection
It is extremely critical to have the necessary safety functionalities to protect the PMDC motor and its controller. The Curtis 1203A model comes with numerous protection features that make it highly reliable:
-
Fault Detection Potentiometer: Helps in avoiding runaway conditions
-
Housing/Heatsink: A protective feature against heat
-
Current Limit: This feature is helpful for compatibility of the controller with most motors as it prevents over currents for both components
-
Polarity Protection: Protects the controller by remaining off when the battery wire is reversed due to installation
-
High Pedal Disable (HPD): Allows a safe start as it monitors the status of the throttle. If the vehicle is prompted to start with an applied throttle, the HPD disables the operation until the throttle is back in a neutral position
-
Temperature Protection: Limits the current of an overheated controller and resets it after cooling down.
-
Cutback Function (Undervoltage): Allows low battery operation by reducing motor current once the battery is approaching ⅔ of its nominal voltage and prevents the battery from discharging beyond the ⅔ voltage limit
